Oval Tadelakt Vessel Sink Natural Lime Plaster Bathroom Basin

A Tadelakt oval vessel sink, soft and organic, formed by hand in Fez and finished in Tadelakt, the traditional Moroccan lime plaster that has lined hammams and fountains for centuries. The rim sits lower at the center and rises gently toward each end, which gives the sink a relaxed, sculptural line. The surface is smooth, softly lustrous, and warm to the touch, very different from glazed ceramic.

How it's made

Each TerraFez Tadelakt sink begins as a clay body. Our artisans apply Tadelakt lime plaster by hand, then polish it with smooth stones until it takes on a gentle sheen. Olive-oil black soap is worked into the surface, where it bonds with the lime to form a natural water-resistant seal. A coat of carnauba wax adds a final layer of protection. There is no glaze and no synthetic sealer, so the finish stays breathable, which helps it resist mold.

Two sizes, two colors

• Small: 38.5 × 30 cm (15.2 × 11.8 in). Rim height 11 cm (4.3 in) at the center, 14 cm (5.5 in) at each end. Sized for powder rooms and compact vanities, and lovely as a pair on a double vanity.
• Medium: 53.5 × 33.5 cm (21.1 × 13.2 in). Rim height 14 cm (5.5 in) at the center, 15.5 cm (6.1 in) at each end. A generous basin for a main bathroom.

Natural beige is a warm, sandy neutral that works in light and dark rooms alike. Olive green is one of our signature Tadelakt colors, an earthy green with the same soft sheen.

A living finish

Tadelakt is water-resistant rather than waterproof in the modern sense. When wet, the surface deepens in tone and then lightens again as it dries. You may also see fine hairline lines, especially when the surface is damp. These come from the lime curing and the hand polishing. They are a normal part of authentic Tadelakt, not cracks. Because every sink is made by hand in small batches, each one varies slightly in shape, tone, and size, usually within 1 to 2 cm (0.4 to 0.8 in).

Installation

Pair it with a wall-mounted faucet or a tall deck-mounted faucet that clears the rim. Because there is no overflow, choose a pop-up drain without overflow slots. We recommend a licensed plumber for the install. If your plumber or designer needs a technical drawing, just ask and we'll send one. Matching brass pop-up drains are also available.

Caring for your sink

Tadelakt asks for a little regular attention, and it rewards that with a patina that deepens over the years.

• After each use: rinse and wipe dry with a soft cloth.
• Once a month: wash with diluted black soap (savon noir) to renew the water-resistant layer. A lightly used powder room can go longer. When water stops beading, it's time.
• Once a year: apply diluted carnauba wax once the soap has set, then buff.
• Avoid: vinegar, lemon and other acids, commercial bathroom cleaners, abrasive pads, and dish soap or synthetic detergents.
